3 ways to avoid expensive transmission problems

One of the most expensive parts of the car to fix is the transmission. A damaged transmission could cost as much as several thousand dollars. What’s sad about it is that it could have been avoided.  Of course you can completely avoid all car problems. But your chances of avoiding it would greatly increase your if you follow the 3 tips that we will discuss.

So, the first tip is to pay good attention to your car. This tip is free but you should always do.  What I mean by paying attention is seeing if it is leaking fluids. Are the gears shifitng roughly? Those are some signs of problems with your transmission. All my clients of my San Marcos auto repair always get a list of what they should look out for between maintenance.

Second tip is free as well.It is also something that is in your hands.  That is making sure you drive well.A lot of people don’t take care of their cars when they are driving and they drive it hard. They don’t realize that they need to take care of it to avoid costly problems.  A lot of the times the cars that need to be repaired in my Carlsbad auto repair shop you can tell which cars weren’t taken care of.Usually, it also means that they would spend more on repairs. So do the right thing and take care and regularly maintain your car.

The final tip will cost you some money. But spending money on this tip will save you more money in the long run.And that would be preventive maintenance. You have to take your car in for regular checkups. It’s just like a person going to a doctor for a general checkup of his health. It would also apply to your cars by taking them in to keep them running smoothly. And thay way you could save a lot of money by repairing minor problems before they develop into major problems. And you could also catch minor problems at its early stages.  The earlier you catch problems the less you will have to spend.

So wisely use these tips.  It is what I give to all my clients of my Carlsbad auto repair. It can make them save a lot of money on repairs.

How to detect transmission problems

One of the most expensive parts of the car to replace is the transmission. There are even times when replacing the transmission system will cost more than replacing your car with a new one.  With that in mind it is important for car owners to make sure to care for it. One way you can do that is by paying attention to what’s happening to your car. What I’m trying to say is that there are signs that you can observe to tell you if your transmission is having problems. Because repairing minor problems is better and cheaper than full blown damages.

The first sign that you can easily see and look out for is a leak.  A lot of times I have cars brought into my San Marcos auto repair shop where the problem started with a simple leak.Red leaks are what you should be on the lookout for.If you see any red fluids leaking from your car then that comes from your transmission. And damages can be incurred if your car’s fluid levels are low.If you see any red fluids leaking from your car immediately fill your car with more transmission fluids. Then go bring it to an auto repair shop to have the leak fixed.

Another thing you must observe is if there are noises and vibrations coming from your transmission.  From my experience running my Carlsbad transmission repair shop those noises are a sign of a couple of things.  It could be a sign of low fluid.Or there is also the possibility of damaged transmission cables. You should immediately have your car looked at by an auto expert to address those problems.

Finally you want to look out for an overheating transmission. That will be your biggest hint that there is a problem with your transmission. I see all the time cars brought into my Carlsbad auto repair shop that had that problem. Most of the cars were brought in too late. So, instead of just having a minor repair it became a major repair.

So by looking out for those signs you can avoid expensive repairs.  It is simple to do and can save you money.

Avoiding transmission problems

The transmission is one of the most important parts of your car. Not only is it one of the most important but it is also one of the most expensive part of the car.It is very expensive to repair and replace. That is the reason why you have to take care of it.  If you don’t it can cost you a lot of money. So here are some of the ways to better take care of your car’s transmission.

First of all one of the minor things that always causing big problems is the fluid.  Not having enough transmission fluid causes so much damage that I see it happen all the time in my San Marcos auto repair shop. What’s sad about this is the fact that it could have been avoided. All a person needs to do is to always check his/her car’s fluid levels. If the fuid levels are already low then go and get her filled up.  It is an easy task but can save a lot of money.

Second thing you must not do is shifitng gears while moving. You would be surprised at the number of cars that come in damaged in my Oceanside transmission repair shop from this problem alone.  Don’t get impatient and shift gears while moving. That is another thing that is very easy to do. But not doing it will damage your transmission little by little.

Finally, do not let your transmission overheat.A transmission that is overheated have the potential of damaging itself more easily.  I always advise my Carlsbad auto repair clients to make sure to add a coolant type of additive to their fluid. This will help your transmission to run cooler.

If a person abides by these tips then his/her car’s transmission will have the ability to last longer.Failure to do so will hurt them financially and their transmission willhave a shorter lifespan.  With these things being so easy to do it shouldn’t be a problem.

Finding transmission problems at home

One auto repair for your car that is very expensive is doing some transmission repair. It is a huge part of your automobile.Being sure to take care of it is really important.By making sure your car is taken care of you will save yourself a little bit of money.Since this is a repair you can’t do on your own, you still have some things that you can check.By doing the checking first at home, you can verify if you really need to bring it in.

First off since I own a San Marcos Auto repair shop I know how expensive transmission repairs can be.  So I always tell my clients to check a couple of things first.  This way they can make sure they need to come in.  First off they can check the fluid. The fluid needs to be real clear. If you find that the fluid is black or dark, that is a warning sign of problems and the car has to be brought in.

A second thing they can look at is how the gear shifts. You can perform this by just shifting the gears from park to drive.  Or you can move it from park to reverse. What you are trying to see is if the gears do the shifting smoothly.  You don’t want any jerking motion.  If you do have jerking that is a sign that something is wrong with your tranmission.  In my Carlsbad transmission repair shop this is one of the big signs of transmission problems.  A lot of cars that come in have this very problem.

Finallyl what you can check for is any leaks of your transmission fluid. This is another thing you can do with your dipstick. But you won’t be able to tell unless you do this checking regularly.  I advise all my customers in my Carlsbad auto repair shop to always check your fluids.  People are familiar with checking for oil.  But they should also check their transmission fluid.  This way they can tell if their fluid is leaking.

If you perform these steps on your car you are making sure your transmission stays in good condition.

Tips on improving the lifetime of your transmission

One of the most costly repairs on a car is the transmission. It is a repair that you do that you really don’t want to hear you have to do.So without question people are searching for methods to get their car to last longer.  Or they want to know if it is even possible. Like most things it is possible.  You can make it last longer by making sure to take care of them. But here are some more things that are more specific in helping your transmission get more life.

First thing you always want to do is maintain proper fluid level.  Just like everything in your car you want to keep your fluids right.  But with a transmission it is crucial if you want your car to last longer.  Whenever a client takes there car in to the Carlsbad transmission repair shop I run I always check their fluids.I am always talking to my customers to make sure they understand to watch their fluid levels. If they try to operate their car with low fluid levels they are going to ruin their transmission.  Or it won’t last as long as they want.

Second thing to be aware of is that heat can harm your transmission.  So what you want to do is make sure you keep your transmission cool.  One of the best ways to do that is to add transmission cooler.  You can easily find it at most auto parts dealers.  Of course when clients come and bring their cars in to our San Marcos auto repair shop we add it in also.  This helps let the transmission run cooler.

Finally here is a simple one.Don’t ever try to shift the gears while your car is moving. You will be shocked at how many people do ruin their vehicles because they shifted the gear while the car was in motion.  I am not because we see it all the time in our Carlsbad auto repair shop.  People bring their cars in with ruined transmissions because they shifted while moving.

Transmission maintenance for your cars

Cars right now are better made than the cars before.Even cars that are considered a sub-par car before last longer these days. But even if cars are more durable now problems still happen from time to time. One of the major problems a car can have is by having problems with the transmission.  Not only is it one of the biggest problems but it can also be one of the most expensive.

So here are some things to look for that I have learned running my San Marcos transmission repair company.First thing you have to check is your fluid level. If you do forget or intentionally do not do this then your transmission would be burnt up in no time.So make sure to have your dipstick always so you can check the fluid levels regularly.  Make sure it is a good level.

Second thing you have to check is if it is already dirty.A transmission fluid that is dirty is a sign of problems that would come.If the color of the fluids that you see is already black or somewhat dirty then you should have your car checked immediately.  I get cars in all the time at my Carlsbad transmission repair shop that have this problem. But since they brought it in for checkups earlier they were able to avoid more costly repairs.

But if you go ahead and do the maintenance yourself then you should be careful.  When you change the fluids make sure you buy the right fluid for your transmission.Putting in a wrong fluid does happen because people make mistakes and it can be surprising. If someone accidentally does this mistake then the transmission of his/her car would burn up in no time.So be sure to check that you are putting in the right kind when changing your fluid.  I tell all my clients of my San Marcos auto repair shop when in doubt just have professionals do it for you.  For such an expensive to replace part of your car it makes sense.

So if you abide by these things then you can save and maintain your transmission for a long time.Following the steps mentioned above will save you a lot of money and it just takes a little while to do.

Transmission problems signs

One of the most expensive parts of the car to be repaired is the transmission. In general like most of your car they are built well.  But it can be easily broken and very expensive to fix.  So you want to always maintain your transmission. So now let’s discuss what are the signs of problem to come for your car’s transmission.

First signs of problems with the transmission is usually the fluids. With a dipstick you can check if there are signs of a leak in your fluid levels. If you notice that the fluid level is always low then that might be a sign of a leak.If the fluid has a burnt smell or is dark in color then that is a sure sign of problems. So to be sure that your car does not suffer any major problems with the transmission make sure that you check your fluids regularly. If you find any of these signs take it into a auto repair shop.  I catch a lot of transmission problems early in my San Marcos transmission repair shop with these signs alone.

Another sign of transmission problems is when you have a delay when you shift it into drive. If you shift it and it does not get into gear immediately then that’s a sign of a problem. That problem is called as the delay of engagement. This could be caused by a worn out transmission or another problem. I have all my clients take it into my San Marcos auto repair shop anytime they get the delayed engagement problem.

Finally when you are driving the vehicle if shifting of gears is jerky there is a problem. All shifting done when driving should be smooth and not jerky. If your car jerks everytime you shift gear then that would be a sure sign of a worn out transmission. I catch a lot of problems early in my Carlsbad transmission repair shop when this happens.A customer can save more money on repairs if only he.she can detect the problems as early as possible.

Checking a used car for transmission problems

As the bad economy touches more people it will also change their buying habits. One of those big areas that it has affected is buying cars. When times weren’t so bad peole would just go out and purchase a new car.Now if they have a need for another car they are going to have to settle for used.  That isn’t a bad thing since used cars do offer more value if you do it right. But if you don’t do it right it could end up costing you a lot of money.

One areas that is easily done wrong is the transmission.Even though the transmissions they make now are more reliable fixing them is still expensive.Said in a different manner you can break them easy but you can’t fix them easy without spending a lot of money.  That is a bad combination and I have seen many of my clients suffer from this in my San Marcos transmission repair company. They go and purchase that used car but they end spending a lot more money.

One thing you are able to do is check the vehicle history. You are going to want to inquire for any service records. That will show you if it was possibly a rental.Or it will show you if it had been in an accident. So what you are going to want to find out is if it had any issues with the transmission.  That is one thing I have all my clients of my Carlsbad transmission repair shop to do is check the vehicle’s records.

Something else you can check is going over the transmission fluid levels. What you are going to have to do is have the car idle for a little while. They you just check the fluid with a dipstick into the transmission fluid. If the fluid is low this is a good sign that it might be leaking. If you find that the fluid is very dirty or even black, don’t even think about buying that car.  It is a sign of transmission problems.  The last thing you want to do is buy a used car then end up having to bring it into my San Marcos auto repair shop to fix the transmission.  Do these things and you can save yourself a lot of money.
