So some things you can do is every time you go in to get service for your car keep a receipt of it.  In my San Diego auto repair business I make sure to give all my clients a receipt of the work that was done.  Make sure whichever company you take your car into does the same.This could be the deciding factor in whether or not you get the price you wanted or have to get something less.

Also, when you have your car taken in for a tune up, don’t forget to keep a record of it.  Getting regular tune ups help keep your car running longer and smoother.It is also beneficial in making your car pass any sort of smog test a lot easier.  In my San Dieg smog check center I notice cars that weren’t tuned up regularly are the ones that fail the test.

Finally you want to keep good records of when you take your car in for brake maintenance.This is a big part of caring for your vehicle and its maintenance.It one thing that a prospective buyer will want to look at.  Because the last thing a new buyer wants is a big expensive brake service they need.  So in my San Diego brake shop I make sure to give a thorough report to all my clients.

Now hopefully you can see the value in maintaining your car is you want to sell it for a lot of money.Most buyers now want the car they are buying to be maintained.  By keeping records you can prove that you have been taking care of it.

This is from a perspective from my experience running a San Diego auto repair company.  The two areas I want to address is your safety and your car’s long term health. 

So in regards to safety you can classify all maintenance as being important to safety.  But one part of your car is really important to your safety.That part of the car is your brakes.With cars being able to travel much faster than before, good brakes are essential for safety. In relation to your car, your car’s overall health will be dependant on how well maintained you keep your car.Some of the crucial things you have to do is to make sure you always change the oil and get tune ups. By making an effort to always change the oil you allow your car to run smoother and longer.By not always changing your oil you run the chance of ruining your engine.

Another important point you should remember to do is have regular tune ups done.If you can do that you will be able to keep your car’s important functions taken care of.By performing this step you will have a car that runs smoother and cleaner.If you fail to do this you will have a car that doesn’t run very well.  Some of the consequences could lead to failed smog tests.  Most of the cars that fail in my San Diego smog check shop are the ones that didn’t take care of those things.

When most people think of their cars and saving money it usually involves saving gas.They try to figure out ways to use less gas and spend less on gas.But what I would like to offer is the fact that if you keep your car properly maintained you can save a lot more.  I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company. 

With a lot of cars people in general don’t think of doing maintenance. Unfortunately the only time they do think about it, is when it is too late.They wait for their car to have something go wrong or something to break down.  But from my experience waiting till that point makes the auto repair more expensive.

Your brakes let examine for instance.If you do proper maintenance with your brakes you are able to avoid expensive repairs.  If you don’t you can  have expensive discs you have to repair.Or you might find the need to have the brake shoes replaced.By using your brakes properly and then maintaining them you will save yourself some money.  So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop and you can find out if you need to do anything.Things like checking the brake fluid to make sure there is enough. 

Or a lot of people won’t take their cars for tuneups.They disregard the engine’s maintenance.They do not do an oil change as frequently as they should. With that being the case most Americans will have to keep all their cars much longer.  Keeping a car longer will require maintenance.  The better you can take care of your car the longer it will last.  So I would like to offer a couple of tips from my experience owning a San Diego auto repair company.

One of those things that can be so easily passed over is making sure your car runs clean. Why does this matter?  Because if you don’t keep it running clean you could fail a smog test.  If you fail a smog test you could be in for some expensive repairs.  I have seen this time and time again from doing smog test San Diego.

Do these few tips and you can be in for a lot of money saved in repairs.When you must keep the cars you own much longer, you will be happy that you did.

But families will still be needing a form of transportation.But when families are on a tight budget they have to go with a cheaper choice.  That alternative is used cars. 

As a San Diego auto repair shop owner I am asked to inspect some of these used cars.Because when you are making a purchase of a used car, the last thing you want is a lemon.So by taking the time to perform a good inspection, you may avoid costly repairs.

So when you are examining the used cars, take in mind these 2 things to look for.  First you want to check the brakes.  We do San Diego brakes in our shop.So I know from experience that having to repair brakes can be very costly.  If you purchase a car that the brakes weren’t maintained it could become expensive.Last thing you want to happen is the need to get the entire braking system replaced.  So make sure the brakes are good.

Second, you want to ensure that the car is running clean.  In other words can it pass a smog test.  In my business I do smog test in San Diego.The last thing you are going to want is the purchase of a used car that needs some expensive repairs.  Especially if those repairs involve emission problems.

If you buy a car that is unable to pass a smog check, that won’t be good.  It is a sign that the car wasn’t taken care of.What most likely occured is they didn’t do any maintenance on it.These could be the start of a lot more problems in the future.

If you make sure to inspect these few items you can save yourself some money. By not inspecting you can lead yourself into some big repairs.When you need to save money, I am pretty sure you don’t want that.

So I would like to offer some perspective from a San Diego auto repair shop owner.  Now you might think I am biased but hear me out.After your reading of this you are going to see that it is sensible and money will be saved.

One of the tips on saving money is by making sure we are able to keep our cars for longer periods of time. In the height of this boom economy when everybody was benefiting people would just trade their cars all over the place. They would just trade their cars as soon as it was too old.So the fact of the matter is a lot of people never thought of maintaining their car.

Well in the economy we are in that is not a luxury anymore.Most everyone will not be able to afford going out and buying a new car in these days.People are forced to hang on to their old ones.  What that means is they will have to maintain their cars.

One of the major items of maintenance is being certain you are able to pass a smog check.Once you have an older car it will be a required law.If you can’t pass the smog test that may cause very expensive repairs.  I know this first hand running my San Diego smog check shop. 

There are some things you are able to do to help make certain you pass the test.You can make an effort to keep your car tuned and maintained.  You can make sure to change the oil and oil filter.  You can make sure the muffler is in good working order. 

This is where you can lose money.  If you fail the smog test you could be in for a lot of money in repairs.So by ensuring that you follow these maintenance tips you will be able to save money.  By taking the time to maintain it now you won’t have to spend big on repairs later.

Don’t forget that you have to maintain your brakes as well.  With my experience with our San Diego brakes shop this is important as well. By ensuring that the brakes pads you have aren’t wworn down you can make your disc brakes last longer.  Not maintaining it can lead to expensive repairs.  Follow this and you will save money.

With that in mind, there are going to be a lot of financial considerations that go into place when buying a used car.

When I say financial considerations, I am not just talking about the sales price.

When you represent a family and were really looking for ways to save money, you obviously don’t want to buy a used vehicle that has extra repair expenses that you weren’t prepared for.Especially if your budget did not have those extra expenses in it.

So one of the big things you want to be aware of is smog checks.The last thing you will ever want to do is having to make expensive repairs because of a failed smog check.  I have seen too many used cars in my San Diego auto repair business have this happen.

So when you are making the purchase of that used car, some things to consider are here.

Under a law passed in 2005, if your car is 1976 or older you don’t ever need a smog check.  But if it is newer than that your vehicle will be tested based on the state emission law.You can search about your state by contacting the Bureau
of Automotive repair at (800) 952-5210.

If you live in California and are buying a used car you may need a San Diego smog check.If the purchase or registration is in California for the very first time, you are going to need a smog test.

Otherwise, if the car is in it’s 5th or 7th year, a smog test done biennially will be needed.

If you purchase the vehicle in another state and live in California, you are going to have to find out if your car can pass the test.  Generally California is much stricter.

With that being the case, keep that on your mind when making a purchase of a new vehicle.

Costs for a smog test San Diego generally run between $30 to $80.But as stated above, that is not the biggest expense.The biggest cost will be if costly repairs are needed.

So when making the purchase of the used car, make an effort to find out if the car was able to pass a recent smog test.

You don’t want any surprise expenses popping up when your goal was to save money by buying a used car.
