The Land Rover LR4 took several elements of the LR3, the 2009 model, and completely redesigned them in order to help the vehicle stand up better against the competition. Improvements include a bigger engine with a faster acceleration and better handling on road.
On-Road Driving
While most people buy a Land Rover with the intention of going off-road from time to time, they will spend most of their time on-road with the vehicle. With improved steering, suspension and braking the LR4 does feel like an improvement. It takes corners better than its predecessor and absorbs bumps better as well. The variable ratio steering rack gives it a responsive but not hypersensitive steering feel. This reduces the car's body roll wich inturn results in better ride quality. The LR4 can even ford water, because the alternator, air conditioning, power steering pump and starter motor have all been waterproofed. bmw 3 series for sale
The vehicle has more power, increased 25 percent over its predecessor. In other words is goes to 60 mph a lot quicker than your LR3. Direct injection gives a better compression ratio, and the better power does not sacrifice fuel economy. LR4 does well for fuel economy. Special attention has been paid for lower idle speeds as well as the alternator during accelerating. In the LR4 the alternator does not charge the batter during acceleration. With a six-speed automatic transmission accelerating is made smarter by locking the torque converter much earlier.
Off-Road Capabilities
As a Land Rover, the vehicle is designed to be taken off road, and handles a variety of terrains well. Equipped with a system that allows a driver to select the terrain on wich the car is travelling. Terrain Response System allows the LR4 to adjust itself accordingly. The problem with most SUV's is that they do not well off road. Well Land Rover is hoping the LR4 can be as tough off road. There is traction control, automatically locking center and rear differentials. Improvements include a rock crawl mode and a sand launch control setting for the Terrain Response System.carfind.co.za
Technological Upgrades
Technology is the name of the game with the LR4. It includes a 5.0-inch TFT display sitting between the speedometer and tachometer, which shows information about the vehicle. All it takes is just a software upgrade and viola you have a navigation system. A surround camera system is available, and drivers can use the tow assist mode to predict how a towing setup will maneuver when the vehicle is in reverse.
Cosmetic Changes
The LR4 looks surprisingly similar to the LR3. In fact, many will not recognize the subtle differences. LED headlamps, front grille and bumber are just a few of the design ques that shout "new". For the new bumber design aerodynamics and airflow for the cooling duct were the main factors. For 2010 the model sees three new colors for selection namely Impanema Sand, Bali Blue or Nara Bronze.
