You’ll find auction events left, right and centre from various government agencies. City public auto auctions are a must if you intend on finding good quality vehicles at low prices with very little bidding competition. This really should be an essential element in your strategy of finding great deals at auto auctions at different institutions.

Federal and State auction events are huge and frequent. Cities not so much as they are much smaller in size. This has its positive aspects. Much less red tape is involved in announcing and conducting the auction. It’s difficult to say how often these city car auctions are held, but on average not more than 6 times a year.

In every state and county an increasing amount of cities are embracing technology and have started to dipose their goods at online auctions. Obviously this leads to an easier auction process. This however is not norm yet, as most cities hold live events.

It is the exception rather than the rule for city auto auctions to be exclusively for a small number of eligible bidders. The eligibility requirement is easily met – you need to be a certain age and provide a social security number (or any other acceptable proof of identity). Usually only a few isolated circumstances will the city council allow bidding from only registered car dealers.

In line with their goal of making these events as accessible as possible to all, the entry fee for bidding will also be fairly low. This can start with a ‘no entry fee’ policy to upwards of $30. Every city will set their own fees. It will be different from Orlando to Dallas and Austen.

Compared to federal levels auctions, city car auctions usually has a much more homely feel to them. Sometimes a relevant city department will conduct the auction, or it may from time to time be contracted to outside auctioneering companies. You need to follow the same guidelines. I casually refer to it as the guaranteee to auction riches, and it involves knowing the value of the car and performing accurate research beforehand. Never overbid, stick to your price and you are guaranteed to pick up a bargain.
