Making the life of your car longer
It is a new day and time. The economy is now considerably different. With it, most Americans have less spending money today as they did before. In terms of the car industry you can see it. With automakers constantly losing money, you know people aren’t buying big items as much anymore.
With that being the case most Americans will have to keep all their cars much longer. Keeping a car longer will require maintenance. The better you can take care of your car the longer it will last. So I would like to offer a couple of tips from my experience owning a San Diego auto repair company.
One of those things that can be so easily passed over is making sure your car runs clean. Why does this matter? Because if you don’t keep it running clean you could fail a smog test. If you fail a smog test you could be in for some expensive repairs. I have seen this time and time again from doing smog test San Diego.
All you will have to maintain is being sure that the oil is changed and oil filter changed regularly.Als be positive that it is tuned up for all the regular tune ups.
Second problem not looked after a lot is your brakes. You don’t really focus your attention on them. But everybody agrees they are important for safety. But if you are unable to maintain it, this can lead to an expensive repair. I should know having to charge my clients to replace their brakes at my San Diego brakes shop.
Make certain that when you are using the brakes that you aren’t too hard on them. Be prepared for all your stops and then apply the brakes slowly. Also be sure there is enough bake fluids. This can add up to a lot of money saved in repairs.
Do these few tips and you can be in for a lot of money saved in repairs. When you must keep the cars you own much longer, you will be happy that you did.
What you need to inspect in a used car
Well the time of irrational exuberance is now long gone. For a lot of Americans excessive items like a new car is a thing of the past. Now when a family is in need of a new car they are forced to look into buying a used car. This is evident in all of the financial problems the big 3 carmakers are having. There sales are down.
But families will still be needing a form of transportation. But when families are on a tight budget they have to go with a cheaper choice. That alternative is used cars.
As a San Diego auto repair shop owner I am asked to inspect some of these used cars.Because when you are making a purchase of a used car, the last thing you want is a lemon. So by taking the time to perform a good inspection, you may avoid costly repairs.
So when you are examining the used cars, take in mind these 2 things to look for. First you want to check the brakes. We do San Diego brakes in our shop.So I know from experience that having to repair brakes can be very costly. If you purchase a car that the brakes weren’t maintained it could become expensive.Last thing you want to happen is the need to get the entire braking system replaced. So make sure the brakes are good.
Second, you want to ensure that the car is running clean. In other words can it pass a smog test. In my business I do smog test in San Diego. The last thing you are going to want is the purchase of a used car that needs some expensive repairs. Especially if those repairs involve emission problems.
If you buy a car that is unable to pass a smog check, that won’t be good. It is a sign that the car wasn’t taken care of.What most likely occured is they didn’t do any maintenance on it.These could be the start of a lot more problems in the future.
If you make sure to inspect these few items you can save yourself some money. By not inspecting you can lead yourself into some big repairs. When you need to save money, I am pretty sure you don’t want that.
Brake Maintenance is Important
One of the things we take for granted in this world is driving a car.It has become almost like a routine and a mindless activity for some people. You see people doing all kinds of things like doing makeup, reading, or talking on the phone, etc. while driving.
But if you really thought about it, your life is on the line everytime you drive a car. Whether it is someone else's fault or yours, accidents do happen.
One of the ways accidents are caused is through brake failure.Your brakes qualifies as one of the critical parts of your vehicle. Unfortunately, out of sight is out of mind. I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.
Your brakes definitely qualifies as out of sight. But it is the one part of your automobile that you have to regularly maintain. Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.After all, the safety of your life and maybe your family's life could depend on it.
With that being the case, it will be relatively easy to maintain your brakes. You can do one of two things, you can take it to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to maintain it yourself.
Either way, the two main things you need to look at are the brake fluid level and the brake pad condition. If you are vigilant in keeping these two points maintained, your brakes will be safe.
When you go to check the brake fluid level, all you are going to have to do is check the fluid reservoir level. It is usually marked and has a 'min' line and a 'max' line. Make sure it isn't below the 'min' line and you should have no problems.
Also be sure that you see that the brake fluid is yellow in color and clear. If it is not, the brake fluid will need to be flushed and replaced with a new fluid.
Brake fluids maintenance are the easy part. The more difficult part will be the brake pads. For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.
Usually the brake pads tell you they need to be replaced when you hear some screeching sounds when you are braking.
If so, get them checked and if need be, replaced as soon as you can. Brake pads that are worn is hard to control or stop.
With your safety and any passengers safety on the line, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if need be, get your brakes fixed.
Following these maintenance steps will ensure your car is safe for all driving conditions.
Dangers of Unsafe Brakes
There are many parts of your car you need to be aware of. In today’s times when autos have everything automatically, most of the times your cars maintenance gets neglected. Believe me I have seen it all owning a San Diego auto repair shop.
After all, even cheap cars are considered state of the art driving machines like the Hyundai, so it is easy to believe nothing goes wrong.
That is a huge mistake. There are still parts of your car that need to be maintained and paid attention to. Most people take care of oil changes and things like that. Although that is important for the life of your car, what most people neglect is their brakes. Which is important to the life of themselves and their family.
So let’s take a look at your brakes and knowing when it is time to change them because they have become unsafe.
The first symptom is when there is grinding or scratching you need to replace your brakes. Usually this is a sign of the metal plates being gone that are supposed to hold the brake pads and now it rubs against the rotor. This is a bad sign and you have to go and replace your brakes immediately.
Second thing you can look for is high pitch noises your brakes make or a loud screeching. A condition called glazed is what causes this. This happens if a person uses the brakes excessively which causes the rotors to get too hot. The rotors then are burned.
You fix this by going to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop.
A third problem is vibrations. When your rotors or drums are warped, when you are braking this will cause a vibration. This happens when too much heat cause them to lose their shape. When it occurs, your rotor has to be replaced.
A final issue to examine is when your brakes are pullling. When you are braking, what will happen is your vehicle is pulled in one direction. This occurs when the brake calipers are not being applied evenly. A fluid leak is what causes this. To find out which side is leaking, you are going to need a mechanic to take a look at it. You take care of this by having the caliper replaced and getting all the air out of the brakes.
These are the common problems with brakes. When this does happen you need a shop that fixes brakes like we fix San Diego brakes.
When you take into account it’s your brakes which keep you from accidents, maintaining this part of your car you don’t want to neglect.
