The 1st ever model of the Explorer was introduced in March 1900 as a ‘91 model, replacing the Bronco II.  The Explorer’s make was patterned after the Ford Ranger compact pickup lorry.  It had under its hood a 155 h.p. 4.0 litre V6 engine with a transmission of 4-speed automatic.  It also has 4 trim levels – the XL, XLT, the upscale Eddie Bauer and the two-door Sport.  The Ford Explorer offers an automatic headlight engine, special grille, outside thermometer, center roof console and special wheels.  In year 2001, Ford Company introduced a new version, the Explorer Sport Trac, which was basically a pickup with four SUV doors. 

Changes have been made to the Ford Explorer.  It now sports a stronger base, power-folding 3rd row seats, re-designed rear suspension and new interiors.  Also in this auto is electronic stability control and tire pressure monitoring system.  And, it has power running boards, which retract whenever the car is moving.  Its base engine is a 4.0 liter 219 hp V6 base engine.  It’s got a developed fuel use, interior silence, bolder style, newer technologies, improved comfort and less emissions. 

To date, Ford has the largest number of SUV customers in the vehicle industry, and the Ford Explorer is among the most popular.
