We do not just have road tax discs so that the authorities can see we have one, I mean in this day and age do they really need to when they can look everything up on the computer. One of the reasons that you have to expose your road tax is so you remember when it is due for renewal. But the same thing cannot really be said for MOTs; you probably put them in the glove compartment and then totally forget about them for the rest of the year.
