Credit Crunch affects Red Van Production
Everyone is aware of the reputation that a white van man carries, but how about a red van man? Well these could soon die out because there is a European wide shortage of red vans.
The lack of red vans is down to the credit crunch. Because money is tight and the sales of vans has been affected by the credit crunch, the overall amount of vans being produced has been reduced. More traditional colours like white are being produced instead, this means that companies like Eagle Couriers, a Scottish delivery firm, might have to change their fleet colours to something more classical.
It seems like a strange situation, manufacturers are making less white vans because of the credit crunch, but the coloured vans are the ones that companies are after buying.
If some companies decide to change the colour of their fleet because of the lack of coloured vans, it may be for the greater good because they may decide on a safer colour. Although this sounds strange, there have been studies that show that white cars are in the least amount of accidents and are therefore the safest colour cars. There have been a number of studies to find out which colour is the safest colour, one being a study that showed that white cars were the safest during a lightning storm. Another study showed that a white fire engine was less likely yo be involved in an accident than a red one.
An idea would be to try and claim a reduction in car insurance for a white car because it’s less likely to be in an accident according to the RAC.
