Dodge Magnum Rt Car Review

The new Magnum is a great looking automobile which may get your neighbors speaking as you rumble around the block. The unique styling of the Magnum will also attract gawkers in the form of 18-22 years old guys pointing for their mates to “check that out”. And some folks will approach you as you are filling up the gas tank to ask, “Does it really have a Hemi?”, with only a vague notion that it somehow makes the car better.

The Magnum is offered with many various engine sizes (either a 6-cylinder or 8-cylinder ) with your selection of hp Output of 190, 250, 340 and 425. The cost of the automobile also corresponds with the engine size beginning at $30,345 to the pricey STR-8 model for $37,320. A huge part of the mystique around this automobile is the Hemi engine. The Hemi is short for hemispherical combustion chamber, which creates more efficient fuel burning and allows bigger valves for better airflow. Fundamentally , it produces more power than an engine with its displacement would usually produce. (There are flaws to the Hemi, which is why it’s not the only engine that Chrysler produces ).

The interior of the vehicle looks much more costly than you’d expect for the cost of the Magnum. Since Mercedes bought Chrysler, the Dodge automobiles I have sampled had a pointy improvement in interior quality. While on the road, the car is extremely solid and the seats are cushty even on long road runs.

As much as I like the looks, after driving it a while I have to query the design idea the Magnum offers. It’s a station lorry built to move plenty of people and a large amount of stuff. But mating this with a robust engine with the taught racing-like suspension is uncomfortable for both. It is like having a Corvette tow a little trailer, and you are in the trailer and the Corvette driver is 15 years-old, pushing the car to its boundaries. ( Only a Corvette has a much more cosy suspension than the Magnum). Even driving on smooth roads, the steering is terribly darty and difficult to control. And with a big vehicle, all that weaving and road feedback is exaggerated for the passengers and everything you’ve stored in the back.

I like having a navigation system, but figuring out the way to use it with the steering wheel controls made me often refer to the user’s manual. In spite of the high h.p. And low-end torque I played with when beginning from a full stop, the RT model I drove averaged twenty M.p.g on the higway.

What I presume to be the target audience for this car, those 18-22 year old fellows that I mentioned, will probably love this car. And as much as I love driving sports cars, the darty steering and sharp suspension make it too uncomfortable without any impressive payoff. The 0-60 sprint is fun for a little while, but I’d pass on buying a Magnum as a daily driving vehicle.

DaimlerChrysler’s Dodge Division Cars

DaimlerChrysler’s Dodge division has actually been making a name for itself over the past decade. No longer in the shadow of Chrysler or a carbon copy of Plymouth, Dodge has its own vehicles stamped with its own unique personality. The Charger is Dodge’s latest hot model; what can Dodge do for an encore? Read on for all the exciting details!

Caliber – The compact Neon is dead and a replacement automobile is waiting in the wings by the name of Caliber. Sporting Dodge’s signature crosshair grille, the Caliber seems like a Chrysler Pacifica but it is in the Chrysler PT Cruiser’s size range. This 5 door wagon-like automobile features jacked up wheel arches and a sloped roofline that tapers off to a rear hatch spoiler. On demand all wheel drive is expected to be one of the vehicle’s options. Built on a Mitsubishi Lancer platform, the Caliber has been planned to go toe-to-toe with the VW Golf and Mazda 3. The Caliber is anticipated to debut in early 2006 as a 2007 model.

Nitro – Dodge gets a small SUV, the Nitro which is a rebadged and barely redone Jeep Freedom . As is customary with all contemporary Dodges, the Nitro sports the Dodge crosshair grille and unique wheel arches. Everything else about the Nitro is predicted to be virtually the same as the Liberty including engine and transmission choices. The Nitro is expected to debut late in 2006.

Charger Coupe – O.K , I am dreaming. So are lots of other people who are just itching for Dodge to release a 2 door version of the grand Charger. The word about Charger is this : 1/2 the folks like the sedan and the other half are disappointed it wasn’t developed as a coupe. No confirmation has been made, but a coupe may show up in late 2007 joining with [not replacing] the current sedan.

Love Those Vans – Chrysler is nearing the end of the life cycle for the present crop of minivans which still outsells any competitor on the market. Stow ‘N Go has been such a preferred hit that any redesign will be built around this nifty feature. Expect the newest rendition of the Caravan and the Chrysler City and Country to show up a little time in 2008.

So, there you have it. The division that at one previous point gave us the Aries K and Omni now has the Snake , Ram, Dakota, Durango, and a host of other exciting cars. Dodge fans are pinching themselves wishing that it’s not all a dream. Well, it is not and the upcoming models promise to uphold Dodge’s new found place in The Chrysler Group.

Bye Bye Neon Hello Caliber

If you are a car fan you know that part of the fun of following the market is inspecting new models as they enter the showroom. There is just something special about a new auto : the smell, the look, the price tag! For some 17 million American drivers a new car is in their future, while many others opt for the used automobile market. Some of the cars on the market today are hot, hot, hot! Let’s take a look at many new and future offerings from Dodge.

Thanks in part to new possession [Daimler Benz purchased the Chrysler Concern in 1998] a fresh infusion of great looking Dodge models have hit a showroom near you. Extra models are soon to appear and the make-over that Dodge has been receiving is nothing but astonishing. These are some of my favorites:

Magnum – Who said that a station lorry should resemble a family hauler? The Magnum sure doesn’t. With an intimidating grille and a rakish exterior, the Magnum is a real man pleaser while also giving women a bit extra room in the back to haul stuff. Throw in a Hemi and the Magnum actually rocks!

Charger – Okay, so the new Charger has 4 doors. Well, you can not have everything. You can have macho looks, a robust engine, and an automobile that is certain to struggle with anything that Japan or Germany throws its way. Word has it that DaimlerChrysler is considering a coupe version. Now, would not that be cool!

Caliber – Bye, bye Neon. The Neon served Dodge well, but it is not in the same caliber as the Caliber. Pun intended. To get introduced in Spring 2006 as a 2007 model, the Caliber will have three engine selections : 1.8, 2.0, and 2.4 I4s, a steadily available transaxle, and all wheel drive. In addition, 2.0L diesel engines will be available outside of the North American market – why not here? – as DaimlerChrysler sets to introduce the Dodge name into new markets.

Other Dodge vehicles that are getting noticed include the Ram and Dakota pick up wagons, the Durango SUV and the soon to be introduced Dodge Nitro, the division’s version of the compact Jeep Liberty. Oh, yup, who could forget the 510-hp V10 Viper? Can you say, Corvette beater?

One word you can not associate with Dodge any more is the word, “boring.” Exciting cars, vans, and SUVs for a market craving these types of hot vehicles. I assume the “ram” insignia actually does befit the name.

The Torino Heavy Duty American Muscle

Back during the 1950s through the mid 1970s, Detroit automakers produced several cars that were out and out “muscle” automobiles. These sorts of automobiles shared the same characteristics : they were 2 door coupes with souped up engines, responsive transmissions, an assertive exterior design, and a sporty interior. High fuel costs and changing tastes ultimately limited sales to the point where only a few models were produced beyond that period. Today, muscle car mania is back, notwithstanding even higher gas costs. Thanks to the Ford Mustang and to a lesser extent to sedan and truck models from Dodge, there’s new interest in a class long given up. The future is bright for the muscle car segment as another manufacturer, Chevrolet, considers bringing back one of its darlings of yesteryear, the Camaro.

Besides the Ford Mustang there were a complete host of autos produced that at a previous previous point or another might have been considered a muscle auto. As well as the Mustang, the Ford Fairlane 5 hundred and Ford Torino did duty; the Mercury Montego was another model ; Chevrolet produced the Camaro and Corvette ; Pontiac the GTO, Firebird, and Storm ; Olds the 442 ; Yankee Motors’ had its Javelin ; Plymouth had the ‘Cuda, and Dodge produced the Challenger and the Charger. Today, only the Mustang and Corvette survives although the Dodge Charger has returned as a four door muscle automobile with its sibling, the hot Dodge Magnum wagon.

Interestedly, it took Ford’s redoing of the Mustang for the 2005 model year to stir the current muscle car era craze. Styled after Mustangs built in the 1960s, the present Mustang embraces a retro look while incorporating latest technology. The result has been the Mustang currently sells its entire 150,000 model capacity without incentives.

The Mustang has been electrifying DaimlerChrysler to go ahead with a retro cruiser of its own. The Dodge Challenger concept auto, popping up at automobile shows across the USA, has been a big hit and Chrysler plans on bringing the V8 hemi powered model back in 2009. Additionally, General Motors is considering giving its blessing on the Camaro, another car also making the rounds of the States car show circuit.

So, isn’t it silly to bring back such gas hogs? Back during the early 1970s, the then current crop of muscle cars averaged only 10-12 miles to the gallon around town and 15 or 16 miles per gallon on the road. Thanks to computer technology and efficiency, even the Corvette returns a highly respectable 28 miles to the gallon the road. So, though fuel mileage will certainly be lower than lots of other models, the new group of muscle autos will still better the prior generation autos with fuel mileage 80% or more above the autos from the 1970s.

Fortunately, we live in a reasonably free country and what the customer wants, the customer gets. So, V8 powered muscle vehicles paired to six speed manu-matic transmissions, with sport handling, bucket seats, and better fuel usage will possibly appeal to many. No, they won’t be actual copies of yesterday’s muscle cars, but they are going to provide the nostalgia and power that motorists seek. I can’t wait!.

Dodge Challenger a Concept Car With a Retro Look

Blogs, car shows have been hyping up the concept Dodge Challenger to the point at which you would think the automobile is almost ready to roll off a DCX assembly line. To claim that the prototype is being well received is an understatement — quite overtly if the Challenger was available for sale today the waiting list would be many months long. Such is the demand for a retro automobile that takes its styling cues right from the ‘71 Challenger.

As it currently stands, the auto will be built as DaimlerChrysler has given its blessing to the new Challenger. Still, the Challenger is more than 3 years from being manufactured as it is likely to be released some time during 2009 as a 2010 model. Yes, the wait will be hard for many, but if the hype equals the performance, then the wait will definitely be worth your while.

Some folk are against the whole retro car revolution. Citing that Detroit must reach back in time to make relevant cars is a testimony to the each automaker’s problems. To the contrary, I believe the many revived models now being planned or already on our streets is a clear testimony to Detroit ultimately listening to its customers: we want cars that are uniquely styled and we’d like them to perform exactly the way you will say they’ll perform. No fake hood scoops, no heralded model name slapped on a car that pales compared to the original. No, we don’t want you to build the original model we would like you to build the first model better. Take the styling cues and run with them and incorporate modern technology to improve on the first design. That’s all we ask.

So, just what can enthusiasts expect when they take delivery of their Challenger? Well, like I announced the vehicle is still in the planning stages, but what I have gleaned from assorted sites is the following information:

Modified Platform — If you like the Mercedes based LX platform now used to run the Chrysler three hundred, Dodge Magnum, and Dodge Charger then the LY platform will suit you too. DCX is intending to change the LX platform for its next generation of vehicles and the LY based Challenger will be one of many vehicles built on it. Some have recommended the LY will be the LX on steroids, whatever that means.

Did Someone Say Hemi? — Each Mopar product of significance will have optional Hemi power and the Challenger is not an exception. Expect a V6 to be standard with the optional Hemi V8 for performance versions of the car. Some have suggested that the 425 h.p. SRT 6.1L V8 will also be supplied for the Challenger.

Ragtop Regalia — Chrysler asserts the Sebring will be its only convertible offering, but that leaves Dodge dealers without a soft top vehicle to market [other than the Rattlesnake , of course]. Despite this bit of info, look for a Challenger convertible to show up one or 2 years after the car’s debut. Heck, if DCX does not want to build one then aftermarket coach builders will do the job for them. You can bet that Dodge dealers will make these arrangements if DCX doesn’t.

Yes, the Challenger won’t be in new automobile showrooms shortly. For those of us waiting with “baited breath” we must console ourselves with the many blogs, sites, and vehicle shows hyping the car. Apart from that, try and imagine your shiny new Challenger stopped at a traffic light with a Mustang on one side and a Camaro on the other side….

Modec Receive £3m Order for Electric Vans

Modec, a Coventry based electric van company, announced yesterday that they had won a contract with a French van distributor for £3m. This news closely followed the announcement that their urban delivery van was the first to gain EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval. What this means is that the delivery van can be sold to any EU country without having to go through more tests.

Tesco’s, UPS, FedEx and Center Parcs are just a few of Modec’s UK clients. Modec can now add ElecTruckCity to their client list.

ElecTruckCity will now be the first French van distributor to stock Modec vans. Bill Gillespie, chief executive of Modec, said this about the deal: “International demand for Modec is extremely strong. ElecTruckCity has taken the first step by setting up a distribution network in France and we are very excited about the future of the French market.”

The vans that were bought by ElecTruckCity were the popular urban delivery vans. Modec currently have over 150 delivery vans around the streets of the UK, owned by a number of clients including Center Parcs. These Modec delivery vans are becoming ever more popular because they have been design for the city. The urban delivery van costs around 15p per mile, compared to 37p for a petrol powered van, and can traval 100 miles using the lithium battery.

The vans also can save more than 9 tonnes of CO2 every year which can help companies like Tesco reduce their emmissions.

As these Modec vans become ever more popular, it appears that the common vans that you see around like Citroen vans or Nissan vans will have alot of competition as more and more companies want to get greener.

Modec are targeting the tipper van market with their brand new electric powered tipper van. The new tipper van has been designed for local authority refuse collection. No doubt these will start becoming popular as more councils try to become greener.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if we started to see an increase in van leasing companies that are investing in Modec vans as alot of companies that are currently leasing their vans may be interested in a cheaper, more greener alternative.

New Electric Car Sent Out By Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi has started delivering their production version electric car to select customers.

Other customers around the world will see their cars being delivered next year for an April release date. The car manufacturer is starting to take orders next month at a cost of 34,000 euros.

The car is powered by a 64 hp electric engine that’s fitted in the rear of the car. The engine is powered by a lithium ion battery which gives you a total of 160 kilometres of driving. You might be disappointed by the speed, with the lithium battery you will only reach 80 mph.

Once you drain your battery power, you will have to wait another 7 hours before going again. However, if you choose to do a quick charge, it charges the battery to 80% in just half an hour.

Although the car is relatively small in size at only 3.4 metres overall length and 2.5 metres wide, it can carry 4 people. It includes a series of features including a navigation and entertainment system, plus air conditioning.

At 34,000 euros which works out at around 29,000 pounds or 47,000 dollars, this is no cheap small car. However, I suppose if you really do care alot about the environment, then you won’t worry too much about the cost.

Don’t worry, there will be other methods you can own this car. By getting a Mitsubishi lease out for this car you often pay less because you don’t buy the entire car. This is the same with any other car maker I must add, whether you want a Chrysler lease or a eco friendly Mitsubishi. However, when you think that you wouldn’t have to buy petrol, it would be cheaper to run even if you’re paying more intially.

Why Not Think About Buying at a UK Police Car Auction

Police Car Auction UK

Constantly inside the entire UK, police officials seize an astonishing amount of items and possessions from crooks and criminals. A high percentage of confiscated property is comprised of things like autos which serve no realistic purpose for law enforcement agencies. Hence, they may occasionally conduct a police car auction to get rid of such vehicles in an efficient, advantageous manner. A police vehicle auction is the place to go for second-to-none prices on vehicles, some of which sell for up to half price.

Police Car Auction

Why You Should Consider Auto Auctions

It’s not just policemen that seize autos seen inside a public car auction. A good number of cars are also seized by entities like Revenue, Customs & Excise, courts and bailiffs. It does not take too much time for the amount of confiscated goods to get to be so much, it must be gotten rid of through a government car auction. Many people who attend these events turn around and re-sell the vehicles they buy for a tidy profit that’s often double or triple the price they paid at auction. That’s because the agency selling the vehicles is looking to get it off their hands as opposed to earning revenue off of it. Also, because there aren’t any direct costs involved, vehicles sold at police car auctions have either have a low reserve cost or none at all. The reserve price is the minimum acceptable bid a seller will accept to give away an item. Ordinarily, a reserve price is set, and it’s equal to the actual market price of the car. But with auctions ran by the government, such reserves are considerably lower.

UK Car Auction

What You Must Know Before Purchase

While a police auto auction is a wonderful place to land a terrific deal on the perfect ride, there’s some things to consider prior to the sale. First, it’s important to consider that a bid can’t normally be gone back on, so bid only if you know you have the money to spend. Also, when you bid at a public police car auction, you’ve involuntarily acknowledged the guidelines and regulations that accompany the sale.

After you’ve taken the time to learn about the process of a UK police car auction, you’ll almost be behind the wheel of a sweet vehicle that may have been too expensive otherwise.

US Government Loan $8 Billion to Electric Car Manufacturers

The Energy department of the US government have given Ford, Nissan and Tesla a total sum of $8 billion. The government has planned this money to be used for developing fuel efficient cars which in turn will create new jobs.

The money is designed to help increase jobs in the car industry, aswell as developing new green cars in the process.

The money is being split into different sums. Ford has received a large amount, $5.9 billion. This money will be spent developing new electric cars, aswell as new technology for current gasoline powered cars.

This money given to Ford has been very handy because of the extremely low interest rate of around 3.75%. If they had tried to get this money on the open market, they would have to expect to pay double figured interest rates.

Nissan will be receiving the second large amount of the loan, $1.6 billion. They said that this money will be spent on a plant they have that is making lithium ion batteries. A new car developed for 2012 will be benefitting from these new batteries.

Tesla are only going to receive a tiny amount of the overall sum compared to Ford. Only $465 million is going to them in loans. Using part of the loan, a new factory is being built in California to start production of their Model S Sedan. The other bit of the loan will be spent on building greener car parts which will be sold to other car manufacturers.

Now they have received this money, we should start seeing a large number of electric cars being developed and released onto the car market. Having the option to lease an electric car would be very nice. I imagine a huge number of people with a Ford lease or Nissan lease would love to have an electric car as this would save them even more money.
